Duane's cousin and his family invited us to go camping in Inverness, FL on the Withlacoochee River at the Riverside Lodge (http://www.riversidelodgerv.com/homepage.htm). Duane had to work, but the kids and I went and had a fabulous time. Our tent site was right on the river, right outside the River Circle (on the map). It was so peaceful there. We were able to sign out canoes so that we could explore the river, while Joe Kelly and the kids had kayaks. This was during Cody's birthday, which is in May, so it was warm out but not so hot that we melted. The tent area was really well shaded. They also have RV spots, cabins and another area (not on the water) called Discover Island. It is more in the woods and has raised platforms for the tents so that they are not on the ground. There is also a large covered building with tables, cooking areas, tv's, etc for anyone to use. The pricing was pretty reasonable, and the area was well maintained.
I really enjoy doing things with my family on the weekends. When we first moved down here and I looked up "things to do in Orlando" in google I always got the same results - Disney, Universal, Gatorland, Sea World. There is so much more to do and see in Florida that is "Unknown" to those who visit and to even those that live here. I wanted to help others find things to do with their families so that they can create memories that they could look back on for years to come.
